Disney Appoints Tony Chambers as New President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa

Walt Disney has named Tony Chambers as the new president of its Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) division, succeeding Jan Koeppen as part of a strategic restructuring aimed at enhancing global entertainment business operations.

In a significant leadership change, Walt Disney has appointed Tony Chambers as the new president of its Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) division. Chambers, who previously served as Disney's head of theatrical distribution, will assume his new role in February, replacing Jan Koeppen, who is stepping down after a six-year tenure. This move is part of a broader restructuring effort by Disney to unify its global strategy and enhance its entertainment business operations in the EMEA region.

Chambers brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having spent 30 years with Disney. His most recent role involved overseeing global film distribution for all films released under various Disney labels, including Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures. Before that, he held the position of senior vice president of studio distribution in Europe.

The restructuring aims to ensure further unification of Disney's global strategy. Under the new structure, several of Disney's lines of business in the EMEA region, including direct-to-consumer, ad sales, platform distribution, networks, studio marketing, theatrical distribution, and sports, will report directly to U.S.-based leaders. The regional president, now Chambers, will continue to represent the company in the region, consolidating strategic priorities and financials, coordinating teams, and leading local initiatives across businesses, excluding Disney Experiences.

Disney's commitment to the EMEA region is underscored by plans to invest $5 billion over the next five years to produce more blockbuster movies and TV shows, including local originals for the Disney+ streaming service. The company operates in over 130 markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, making it a key region for Disney's global success.

Jan Koeppen, who has been instrumental in leading the EMEA business through a period of transformation and growth, including the launch of Disney+ in the region, expressed gratitude for his time at Disney and pride in the team's achievements. Koeppen's departure marks the end of an era, but Disney is confident in Chambers' ability to build on the momentum and continue accelerating growth in the EMEA region and globally.

Chambers expressed his honor in leading the world-class EMEA team, emphasizing the region's dynamic nature and his eagerness to further its positive change. Disney's leadership, including Disney Entertainment co-chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden, and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro, praised Chambers' collaborative style and stellar reputation, expressing confidence in his ability to drive the company forward.
